LIP Anti-friction coatings are just that, a coating of either surface that is causing the problem is effective, some Anti-friction coatings will appear to penetrate permeable surfaces but in reality the product dries leaving a micro-thin layer of active ingredient on the surface of the material – some anti-friction coatings have the ability to be virtually invisible once dry on surfaces such as leather and vinyl upholstery.

SIX MAIN SPECIALITY LUBRICANTS

LIP stands for Lederzentrum Instandsetzung und Pflege. The English translation is: Lederzentrum Repair and Care as the product range was originally focused with leather problems but expanded to help deal with plastic, rubber and metal noise issues. There are over a dozen products in the LIP Anti-friction Coating range, the six most popular formula are summarised below along with application information, instructions on how to use and video overviews.

AC 612/21
AC 612/21 anti-friction coating is a water-based, low-viscosity liquid dispersion. Upon application, the product air-dries and then air-cures (cross-links) over time to form a nearly invisible, non-migrating, water-resistant semi-continuous coating or strongly adhering dry film lubricant, depending on the composition and flexibility of the surface. A popular, multi-purpose product. Also available formulated with a UV tracer. AC612/21 is ideal for application to visible, flexible, elastic surfaces such as leather, artificial leather, vinyl, or soft plastics. A classic application is leather seating upholstery rubbing against itself or against hard plastic. If applied very thinly, e.g. with a sponge or cloth, it will be effective yet invisible on vinyl and leather, even dark leather – a difficult challenge! AC 612/21 anti friction coating is also proven to solve creaking by the vibration of clear-coated plastic consoles and is useful as a problem source identifier.

How To Use
AC 612/21 should be shaken or stirred before use (depending on container type), then thinly applied by spraying, brushing or rolling-on to create a thin film that air-dries within 5-20 minutes. If too heavily applied, a wipe with a dry cloth will leave a thin, effective, yet invisible coating. Over-applied AC612/21 can be removed by immediately wiping with a wet cloth. Drying can be accelerated by gentle application of heat lamps or air dryers. It is recommended that the user should experiment with different film thicknesses – only 5-10 μ m dry film thickness is usually required. When applied in thin layers on lighter coloured materials, AC612 is almost invisible and therefore can be used on some Class A surfaces. Perform final testing after 48 hours if possible (minimum 24hrs).

Note: This is a water-based product, so avoid application to un-lacquered/bare metal parts.

PEOX DF
PEOX DF anti friction coating, is a water-based viscous fluid or gel. Upon application, it air-dries and then air-cures (cross-links) over time to form a nearly invisible, non-migrating, water-resistant semi-continuous coating or strongly-adhering dry film lubricant, depending on the composition and flexibility of the applied-on surface. A popular, multi-purpose product. Also available formulated with a UV tracer. PEOX DF is ideal for application to visible, flexible, elastic surfaces such as leather, artificial leather, vinyl, or soft plastics. A classic application is leather seating upholstery rubbing against itself or against hard plastic. PEOX DF works really well (as a dry film lubricant) when applied to non-polar plastics such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). The gel/cream like consistency is helpful if parts need to be assembled before drying time is complete. PEOX DF meaning is PEOX Dünn Flüssig (German). Dünn Flüssig means low viscosity. PEOX DF anti friction coating can be considered a lower viscosity version of PEOX Paste.

How To Use

PEOX Paste
PEOX Paste anti friction coating can be considered as a more viscous (more solids) version of PEOX DF. The product is a water-based paste that resembles a grease in bulk. Upon application, it air-dries and then air-cures (cross-links) over time to form a nearly invisible (in thin layers), non-migrating, water resistant semi-continuous coating or strongly-adhering dry film lubricant, depending on the composition and flexibility of the applied-on surface. A popular, multi-purpose product. Also available formulated with a UV tracer. PEOX Paste can be used in thin or thick amounts. The product is ideal for application to visible, flexible, elastic surfaces such as leather, artificial leather, vinyl, or soft plastics. A classic application is leather seating upholstery rubbing against itself or against hard plastic. PEOX Paste anti friction coating works really well (as a dry film lubricant) when applied in thin layers to non-polar plastics such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP). The paste consistency is helpful if parts need to be assembled before drying time is complete which also makes the product suitable for use as a general assembly aid.

How To Use
PEOX Paste can be applied by wiping on to the surface with a clean cloth or sponge. A thin layer air-dries within 5-20 minutes. If too thickly applied, a wipe/rub away excess with a dry cloth and leave the desired thickness of product. Drying can be accelerated by gentle application of heat lamps or air dryers. The user should experiment with different LIP products and film thicknesses but only around 5-10 µm of dry film thickness is usually required. Perform final testing after 48 hours if possible. Note: This is a water-based product, so avoid application to unlacquered/bare metal parts.

AC F-27
AC F-27 anti-friction coating is a water-based, low-viscosity, translucent dispersion that utilises polysiloxane- polyurethane technology. Upon application, it air-dries and then cures (cross-links) over time to form a clear, medium glossy, non-migrating, water-resistant continuous coating. A popular, multi-purpose product that tends to be tolerant of handled, even silicone-treated, surfaces. F-27 is free of N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP). Emission safe – Passed VW50180. Effective in hot/cold tests (VW Climate chamber test PV2005 bis 60 Zyklen). Lightfast: passed PV1303 5 Cycles. Also available formulated with a UV tracer. F27 is excellent as a clear coating for plastic-on-plastic applications.

AC 602/2
AC 602/2 anti-friction coating is a water-based, low-viscosity specialty dispersion for application to rubber parts. The product air-dries and then cures (cross-links) over time to form a slightly glossy, non-migrating, water-resistant, elastic and strongly-adhering dry film lubricant. Also available formulated with a UV tracer.

How To Use
AC 602/2 should be shaken or stirred before use, then thinly applied by brushing, spraying, wiping or rolling-on to create a thin film that air-dries within 5-20 minutes. Product performance is improved if the coating is allowed to penetrate the rubber over a longer period of time (15 minutes to 24 hours), or by application to still-warm, extruded parts. Perform final testing after 48 hours if possible. Note: This is a water-based product, so avoid application to unlacquered/bare metal parts. Not designed for coating hard, non-porous surfaces.

AC 644-W
AC 644W anti-friction coating is a water-based, fast-drying speciality dispersion. Upon application it air dries and then cures (cross-links) over time to form a hard, tough, low gloss, non-migrating, water-resistant continuous coating. Also available formulated with a UV tracer and in a black coloured version. AC644-W is excellent as a hard, tough coating for high-pressure areas and functioning hard materials/parts such as cup holders that need to glide smoothly, seat strikers or tonneau cover rollers, or folder mechanisms. AC644-W should also be considered in circumstances where AC-27 is failing due to high pressures.
